Yannis Philippakis is a Greek-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is the lead vocalist, and a founding member, of British indie rock band Foals. He has also worked on solo projects.
Yannis was born in Karpathos, Greece, to a Greek father, and a South-African born Ukrainian Jewish mother. He moved with his family to South Africa, when he was four years old, and to Oxford, England, a year later, with his mother; he visted his father on the island Karpathos during the summers. Yannis was raised Greek Orthodox.
